Okay, lets get straight to the point. Light Grenades, Incubus' fifth full-length album was released last fall and needless to say, it was about time. After taking a well-deserved hiatus, the band put out thirteen new tracks (or 15 if you're Japanese) for our listening pleasure.
However, if I had to rank LG on the list of Incubus albums, I wouldn't put it at the top. Light Grenades had enough solid tracks to mask the ones that weren't so strong, but the whole CD seemed to lack for me in a way an Incubus record shouldn't have. Nevertheless, I personally think that this cd is still good, don't get me wrong, it just isn't their best effort.
Stand out tracks for me were A Kiss To Send Us Off, Dig, Anna-Molly, Light Grenades and Pendulous Threads, although all the rest of the songs are good in their own respect.
Overall I would give the album a 8.5/10. It's not nearly a perfect record like I would give Morning View, but it's definitely not their worst. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

hearing anything from them was music to my ears, soul and life. i'm not a very big critic of them or thier music because to me they can really do no wrong.
to me it's a 10, and aclotm was a 10, mv 10, my 10, and so on. i thought i was gonna die if we didn't get a new record soon. well not die but close to it. i respect all critiques and opinions though. of course i have all my fave songs and highlights but just the fact that they're still making great music and great guys are good enough for me.

Yeah, I suppose. I only lowered the score to an 8.5 because it didn't have enough epic songs. Songs I can listen to over and over again. Dig and Pendulous Threads was it for me. I love the album, I'll listen to it as a whole over and over, but I always find myself playing Drive, Wish You Were Here, Pistola, Sick Sad Little World, etc. constantly. Every day if I can. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

dig and pendulous are totally there for me too. but then when i say that i think about quicksand which is brilliant, and then i just move down the line and say that about almost all of them. and i really really love paper shoes a lot. i know i'm not in the majority there but it just does something to me. and aktsuo...see i told you i would go off there.
but drive will always have a special place in my heart, as well as wywh, pistola is Great, and SSLW is definetly one of my faves so i agree with you on those.
but see, and i don't want to sound like a skipping record, but i could almost say that about them all...thats just me though~~

Yeah, well, I'm the same way. I can listen to every Incubus CD without skipping a track and I'm still not sick of them. I just have alot of standout tracks mixed in that are still just as enjoyable as the first time I was able to sing along all the way. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

Haha, Fungus doesn't really hold a special place in my heart like the rest of their music does. But some of it is okay. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

Light grenades is a record that have a lot of new instruments, performed by kilmore and some of mike, and I think that incubus is trying to tell us that they can give all their fans something else than funk rock or something.
It has a perceptible inffluence of the police and sting.
And also I can hear some radiohead sound throug earth to bella.....

I like how Light Grenades sort of brings me back to the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. days. __________________9.30.04

Yeah bassgirl, Quicksand is radiohead-esque too. I think. I don't listen to alot of Radiohead, haha. But that's what I've heard anyway. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

i kinda expected an album like Light Grenades. It holds true to the ever changing musical style that is Incubus. It's an excellent album in my opinion. It flows all the way through, starting with the wicked song Quicksand (by far my favorite on the album) and ending with the haunting Earth to Bella pt.2. It is hard to compare Incubus with Ben Kenney and Incubus with Dirk Lance. Different styles and artistic abiliity. Personally i prefer Dirk Lance over Ben Kenney but still feel that Kenney is a worthy successor. But all in all an outstandng album that Incubus should be very proud of. Other favorites on the record are Light Grenades, Rogues, and both Earth to bella, pt. 1 and pt. 2.

You know what I've wondered for a while? Why Incubus doesn't make another secret track. They haven't done that since SCIENCE...10 years ago. I kinda hoped there would be one on LG, but alas, nothing. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

I know! It's so much fun and you'd think it would be fun for them to record it. Just saying random stuff or jamming, I would have a ball with that. __________________9.30.04

I'd like to hear something like, random instrumental jamming, and then after that, fade into a new song. Kinda like AFI did with Sing The Sorrow, not sure if you're familiar with it. They had a poem between the last marked track and the hidden track. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

Yeah, might be cool. I think I would have liked to hear Look Alive as a hidden track instead of an overseas exclusive. That song kicks large amounts of behind. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

I agree. Punch Drunk is a good song though. Both songs fit with Light Grenades really well, but I guess they felt they didn't fit enough. __________________Please try to stay on topic. Cheers.

I would probably give the entire album a 9. My favorite song from the album was Anna-Molly, and I think it was the strongest track overall. I don't think it was their best album, but it was definitely up there.

I would give it an 8. There are a lot of really good songs on it, but there's also a couple that aren't as strong and therefore kind of drag it down (Diamonds and Coal and Paper shoes were my least favourites). I think there should have been more tracks like Light Grenades on the album.

Coming from a critics standpoint the album is damn good, but not a masterpiece. However coming from a fans point of view you have to understand that they are getting older, more experianced in their artistic desires and directions.
Maybe this is the real Incubus but we never knew it. Anyone or anything can start from one thing, and before you know it *poof* become something completely different that you never would have expected. But when they become something different maybe it's only to us, to them this could be who they really are.
Incubus is growing and evolving as it should, so under no means is this album better or worse then any other record they have made, this is of course in my opinion, but it is simply different in to many ways to count from some of there other works.
I recomend you listen to every track on the album on their own and pick out what works for you and what doesn't, and by the end I garauntee you will understand where I am coming from.

i really thought Earth to Bella was a great piece. Would anyone take a stab at an idea as to why the song was split in parts?
